FOR PERIODS 1 & 4 ONLY: Because it is a bit difficult to understand, sketch a picture (in your notebook) of the Navajo's 2nd paragraph. Students whose sketches are closest to the written description will receive candy. (STANDARD: Explain personal interpretation of a text and identify specific parts of the text that lead to that interpretation.)
In a Double Bubble map, compare and contrast excerpts from Genesis and The Navajo Origin Legend. Read excerpts from the Iroquois Constitution and the U.S. Constitution. Discuss what all 4 texts imply about colonial and native values. (STANDARD: Explain how different authors discuss similar topics in different ways and what is emphasized and missing in each.)
FOR PERIOD 6 ONLY: Think about things you wonder about but cannot answer. Write a 1 page story detailing the origin of that question. For example: Why do penguins have wings but cannot fly? Why are bats blind? Why do dogs bark?
