5 Ways to Understand Shakespeare
1. Use footnotes.
Replace circle words with words on bottom of page.
2. Replace Old English.
Hast/Hath =had, have, has
3. Recognize the contractions.
i' th’=in the
4. Flip the inverted syntax.
“These things to hear would Desdemona seriously incline” (1.3.144-145).
“Desdemona would be seriously inclined to hear these things.”
5. Remove the interrupters.
“I here do give you that with all my heart which, but you have already, with all my
heart, I would keep from you” (1.3.191-193)
“I passionately give you something that I would’ve passionately kept away from you, but you already have it.”
